Psychodynamic psychotherapy

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a treatment approach that works on your current symptoms in the context of your life history, (unconscious) relationship dynamics and conflicts. The aim is to explore and better understand how emotional patterns and relationship dynamics affect your current emotional experience and behavior, ultimately working toward resolution and lasting change.

The therapeutic relationship between therapist and patient plays a central role in resolving dysfunctional relational patterns, providing a safe space to work on and change difficult feelings and thoughts. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is based on the principles of psychoanalysis, but in contrast to psychoanalytic psychotherapy, places a greater emphasis on the present. Nevertheless, past experiences and their influence on current feelings, thoughts and relationships are taken into account and processed.

Duration

Sessions takes place once a week, with therapy lasting 1-3 years. Statutory health insurance covers up to 100 sessions depending on individual needs.
